I recently bought a place at trustees sale (CA) where the tennants had moved out but still had a few items left behind.? I have tried to make arrangements with them to let them get the stuff, but haven’t had any luck.? What are my obligations with these possession?? (Items include a TV, dvd player, desk, chair & some kitchen stuff)
I don’t want the items, just want them out to start cleaning the place etc.
Depends on the value. If the combined value is less than $300 you can do whatever you want with it. If it is more you’ll have follow an auction procedure outlined in California civil code 1980. You are allowed to move and store it and recoup those costs from the auction proceeds (assuming they will be enough to cover it). Just be sure to document everything with photos and notes in either case.
